Gordondale is a small, unincorporated community located in northern Alberta, Canada. It's found in an area called Saddle Hills County, right on Highway 49. Gordondale is about 88 kilometers (55 miles) northwest of a larger city called Grande Prairie.

An "unincorporated community" means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's part of the larger county.

How Gordondale Got Its Name

Gordondale wasn't always called Gordondale! When people first settled here, it was known as Moose Creek.

The Moose Creek Post Office opened its doors in 1929, helping people send and receive mail. A year later, in 1930, the Moose Creek Store opened, giving local families a place to buy supplies.

In 1933, the community decided to change its name. It was renamed Gordondale to honor Gordon Kirkness. Gordon was the son of Henry and Louise Kirkness, who were early settlers in the area.
