Gordonsville has a history that goes back many years. In 1848, an important place called a post office was opened there. This was where people could send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for a long time, until 1933, when it closed down. Gordonsville officially became an incorporated community in 1861. This meant it gained some official recognition and structure.
