The Story of Gore
Before it was called Gore, this area had another name: "Mt. Hickory." The name "Gore" came from a man named William Gore. He was the very first postmaster for the community. A postmaster is the person in charge of a local post office.
A post office was first set up in Gore in 1884. This was an important place where people could send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for many years. It finally closed down in 1953. Even though the post office is gone, the name Gore remains.
