The Goshen Church is an old and important church building. You can find it on Goshen Road in Bradford, Vermont. It was built in 1834. This church is a great example of a style called Greek Revival. It still looks much like it did when it was first built. In 1976, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's a special place worth protecting.

What Does Goshen Church Look Like?

The Goshen Church is in a quiet, country area of western Bradford. It sits on the east side of Goshen Road. The building is made of wood and has one story. It has a roof shaped like a triangle, called a gabled roof. The outside walls are covered with overlapping wooden boards.

Front of the Church

The front of the church looks the same on both sides. It has two doors that are exactly alike. Each door has tall, narrow windows on the sides. Above these windows, there's a special design with three small, arched openings. The middle opening has a Gothic louver, which is a slatted vent.

Above each door, there's a window. These windows also have a Gothic louver design above them. A tall, square tower rises from the middle of the roof. The bottom part of the tower is plain. The top part is smaller and has openings with slats, like a bell tower. The very top of the tower has a railing with pointed decorations at the corners.

Inside the Church

Inside, the church still has its original box pews. These are like small, enclosed seating areas. The pulpit, where the speaker stands, is also original. It's painted to look like marble.

History of Goshen Church

The church group, or congregation, started in the early 1800s. People from Bradford and Newbury formed it. They had left other Baptist churches that had stricter rules.

Why This Location?

The church was built in Bradford, close to the town line with Newbury. This spot was chosen to be easy for everyone in the congregation to reach.

Modern Use of the Church

The Goshen Church has never had modern things like electricity. Today, it is only used for church services during the summer months. It's a unique place that shows how churches were built long ago.
