The Goudreau Museum of Mathematics in Art and Science was a special place that explored how math, art, and science are connected. It was a museum in Long Island, New York, that was open for 26 years, from 1980 to 2006.

What Was the Goudreau Museum?

This museum was named after a math teacher named Bernhard Goudreau. He loved math and built many cool things related to it. The museum showed off many of his creations.

Fun with Math

Imagine a museum filled with giant wooden math games! The Goudreau Museum had lots of these. It also featured puzzles and amazing 3-dimensional (3D) solid models. These were all built by Bernhard Goudreau and his students. It was a hands-on way to learn about math.

From Goudreau to MoMath

After the Goudreau Museum closed in 2006, a former math professor named Glen Whitney had a great idea. He wanted to open a new, bigger math museum. He was inspired by the idea of making math fun and exciting for everyone.

The National Museum of Mathematics

Glen Whitney worked hard to make his dream come true. In December 2012, the Museum of Mathematics (often called MoMath) opened in Manhattan, New York City. It continues the spirit of the Goudreau Museum by showing how interesting and creative math can be.
