Gould is a small, unincorporated community in Cherokee County, Texas. This means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. In the year 2000, about 20 people lived there. Gould is part of a larger area that includes the cities of Tyler and Jacksonville.
A Look Back at Gould's History
People first started settling in the area now called Gould in the 1870s. It became a stop along the International-Great Northern Railroad line. A post office opened in Gould in 1905 and stayed open until 1918.
In 1914, about 80 people lived in Gould. They had a sawmill, which cuts wood, and a general store for shopping. These businesses stayed open until the 1930s. They closed down after World War II. By the year 2000, the population of Gould was 20 people.
Where is Gould Located?
Gould is found in the northern part of Cherokee County, Texas. It's located where two roads meet: Farm to Market Road 2064 and Farm to Market Road 2750. It is about 18 miles (29 km) north of a town called Rusk.
