The Gould House is a special old house located on Golf Drive in Norfolk, Connecticut. It was built in 1915, which means it's over 100 years old! A famous architect named Alfredo S.G. Taylor designed it. He was from New York City but spent his summers in Norfolk. The house is so important that it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982 because of its connection to this architect.
The Gould House: A Unique Home
The Gould House is in a quiet, green area just outside Norfolk's main village. It sits on Golf Drive, near the Norfolk Country Club. This house is a two-story building made of wood. It's built on a sloped piece of land, which adds to its interesting look.
What Makes the House Special?
One of the coolest things about the Gould House is its roof! It's not a normal, simple roof. It's a wide, gabled roof that stretches down to the first floor on one side. Then, it wraps around the front of the house between the first and second floors. Above this, there's another part of the roof that looks like a smaller, separate section.
The house also has a part that sticks out to the left, making the whole building look a bit like the letter "L." The bottom floor is covered in wide wooden boards called clapboards. The upper parts of the house are covered in shingles. You can also see some cool stone posts on the first floor, which add to its unique style.
Who Was Alfredo S.G. Taylor?
