Govan-Partick Bridge facts for kids
The Govan-Partick Bridge is a brand new bridge being built in Glasgow, Scotland. It crosses the River Clyde, a famous river in the city. You can find it near the Riverside Museum.
This bridge is special because it's only for people walking and riding bikes. It connects two parts of Glasgow: Govan on the south side of the river and Partick on the north side. The bridge will be about 110 metres long.
Its unique V-shape design looks like the old cranes that used to work along the river. When finished, it will be one of the biggest footbridges in Europe that can open up to let boats pass!
Building this bridge helps make things better in Govan. It's part of a bigger plan by Glasgow University and Glasgow City Council called the 'West End Innovation Quarter'. The bridge will lead to a new area in Govan called Water Row. This area will have new homes and shops.

How the Project Started
The idea for the Govan-Partick Bridge came from a big plan called the City Deal. This plan helps cities get money for important projects. Glasgow City Council is leading the project.
The bridge was first expected to start being built in 2020. People thought it would open in the summer of 2021.
Delays and Construction
In February 2020, the final plans for the bridge were shared. The new opening date was set for 2022. But there were more delays.
Construction finally began in January 2022. The bridge is now expected to be finished by spring 2024. If you visit the Riverside Museum, you can see the building site clearly from the cafe on the second floor!
