List of governors of Oyo State facts for kids
Oyo State is a state in Nigeria, a country in West Africa. Like other states in Nigeria, Oyo State has a leader called a governor. The governor is like the chief executive of the state, responsible for making sure things run smoothly and that people's needs are met.
Oyo State was created in 1976. Before that, it was part of a larger area called Western State. Western State was divided into three new states: Ogun, Ondo, and Oyo states. This change helped to manage the different areas better.
What Does a Governor Do?
A governor is the highest-ranking official in a state. They are chosen by the people through elections, or sometimes they are military officers appointed by the government. Their main job is to lead the state and make important decisions.

- Making sure schools, hospitals, and roads are good.
- Working to create jobs for people.
- Keeping the state safe and secure.
- Representing the state when dealing with the national government or other states.
