Ogun State is one of the 36 states in Nigeria. It is located in the southwestern part of the country. The state is often called the "Gateway State". This is because it connects Lagos, Nigeria's largest city, to other parts of the country. Its capital city is Abeokuta. Ogun State was created on February 3, 1976.

Ogun State is in the southwestern part of Nigeria. It covers an area of about 16,980 square kilometers. This makes it the 24th largest state in Nigeria. In 2006, about 3.75 million people lived here. This makes it the 16th most populated state in Nigeria.

Government and Leaders

Ogun State is led by a Governor. The Governor is the head of the state government. The current Governor is Ibikunle Amosun. There is also a Deputy Governor, Yetunde Onanuga.

The state has a law-making body called the Ogun State House of Assembly. This group makes laws for the state. People from Ogun State also represent the state at the national level. They serve as Senators and Representatives in Nigeria's capital, Abuja.
