Isiaka Abiola Adeyemi Ajimobi (born December 16, 1949 – died June 25, 2020) was a Nigerian politician. He came from Oyo State, in south-western Nigeria.
Before politics, he worked for many years in the oil industry. In 2003, he became a Senator for Nigeria, representing Oyo South. Later, he ran for Governor of Oyo State. He won the election in April 2011. He was the Governor of Oyo State from 2011 to 2019. In June 2020, he passed away due to complications from COVID-19.
Early Life and Education
Isiaka Abiola Adeyemi Ajimobi was born on December 16, 1949. His family was from Ibadan, Oyo State. He started his schooling at Saint Patricks Primary School in Ibadan. He finished primary school at Ibadan City Council Primary School. Then he went to Lagelu Grammar School for his secondary education.
After high school, Ajimobi traveled to the USA for university. He studied Business Administration and Finance at the State University of New York in Buffalo. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree there. Later, he got his Master's degree (MBA) from Governors State University in Illinois. He focused on Operations Research and Marketing.
Political Journey
Abiola Adeyemi Ajimobi started his political career in 2003. He was elected as a Senator for the Republic of Nigeria. In the Senate, he held an important position as the Deputy Minority Leader.
In 2007, he tried to become the Governor of Oyo State but did not win. He ran again in 2011 and was successful. He became the Governor of Oyo State.
People called him the "Architect of the Modern Oyo State". He ran for a second term as Governor in 2015. He won this election too. This made him the first person to be Governor of Oyo State twice in a row. Election officials announced him as the winner.
In 2018, Ajimobi was chosen to run for Senator again. However, he lost the senatorial election in 2019. In June 2020, he was named the acting national chairman of his political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Family and Passing
In 1980, Ajimobi married Florence Ajimobi. They had five children together.
On June 19, 2020, he became very ill and was taken to a hospital in Lagos. He had complications from COVID-19. He passed away on June 25, 2020.
