Oyo State is one of the 36 states in Nigeria. It is located in the southwestern part of Nigeria. Its capital city is Ibadan, which is also the largest city in Nigeria. Oyo State is often called the "Pace Setter State" because it was one of the first states to achieve many things in Nigeria.

A Look at Oyo State's Past
Oyo State was created on February 3, 1976. It was formed from what was known as the Western State. Later, in 1991, another state called Osun State was separated from Oyo State. This means that Osun State used to be part of Oyo State before it became its own state.
