Governorates of Saudi Arabia facts for kids
Governorates are like important local areas or districts in Saudi Arabia. Think of them as smaller parts that make up the bigger regions. Saudi Arabia has 13 main regions, called emirates. Each of these emirates is then divided into many governorates.
After the governorates, there are even smaller areas called sub-governorates. Governorates in Saudi Arabia are sorted into two groups, "Category A" or "Category B." This sorting depends on how many people live in each area.
There are 118 governorates in Saudi Arabia. If you count a special city called Al-Udayd, the total goes up to 119.
What are Governorates?
Governorates are a way to organize the country and make sure local services reach everyone. They help the government manage things like schools, hospitals, and roads in different parts of Saudi Arabia. Each governorate has its own local government that works to serve the people living there.
How Saudi Arabia is Organized
Saudi Arabia uses a system to divide its land into different parts.
- First, there are 13 large emirates (regions).
- Next, each emirate is split into smaller governorates.
- Finally, governorates are divided into even smaller sub-governorates.
This system helps manage the country's different areas, from big cities to smaller towns and villages.
