The Goyeneche Palace is a beautiful old building in Nuevo Baztán, Community of Madrid, Spain. It was built a long time ago, starting in 1709, and has a church connected to it. A famous architect named José de Churriguera designed it. He was known for a very fancy and decorated style called Churrigueresque. The inside of the church shows off this amazing style, while the outside is a bit simpler.

This palace is one of several buildings linked to the Goyeneche family. Nuevo Baztán itself was planned as a special "model village" by Juan de Goyeneche (who lived from 1656 to 1735). He wanted it to be a place for new factories and farms. The church is named after Saint Francis Xavier, which shows that the Goyeneche family came from a region called Navarre.

Protecting This Historic Place

Since the 1940s, the Goyeneche Palace and its church have been protected because they are important historical sites. They are officially recognized as a Bien de Interés Cultural, which means "Property of Cultural Interest." Two town squares next to the palace are also part of this protected area.

In 2007, people noticed that the palace needed a lot of repair work. It was not in very good condition.

What's Happening There Now?

There have been ideas to fix up the palace and turn it into an art gallery. This project was planned to be a team effort between the Community of Madrid and a famous art collector named Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza. She offered to lend some of her private art collection for a long time to be shown there. However, this plan seems to have been paused.

The palace has large underground rooms, called cellars, which were originally used for storage. Today, these cellars are home to an "interpretation center." This is a place where visitors can learn more about the palace and its history. You can also take guided tours to explore the palace itself.
