Grace Geraldine English (born in 1891, died in 1956) was a talented British artist. She was known for her beautiful paintings and detailed etchings. An etcher is someone who creates pictures by carving designs into metal plates.

Grace English's Early Life and Education

Grace English was born in London, England, in 1891. As a teenager, she traveled quite a bit. She spent time living in both Paris, France, and Germany.

While in Germany, Grace met an author named I. A. R. Wylie. Grace helped illustrate one of Wylie's books. This book was about the Black Forest, a famous wooded area in Germany.

Art School Training

In 1912, Grace English returned to London. She decided to study art seriously. From 1912 to 1914, she attended the Slade School of Art. This was a very famous art school. While studying there, Grace even won a special prize for her painting!

After World War I, Grace continued her art education. In 1921, she studied etching at the Royal College of Art. This helped her become skilled in creating detailed prints.

Grace English's Art Career

Grace English painted many different subjects throughout her life. She was known for painting:

  • Graceful ballet dancers

Exhibitions and Collections

Grace was a regular artist who showed her work. She often exhibited her paintings at the Royal Academy. This is a very important art institution in London.

She also showed her art at other well-known places. These included the New English Art Club and the Royal Society of British Artists. She also exhibited with the Royal Society of Portrait Painters.

Today, you can still see some of Grace English's artwork. The Leeds City Art Gallery in England has examples of her paintings.
