Her father, William Smith, worked for a government program called the Works Progress Administration during the Great Depression. Her mother, Fredrica Smith, was a homemaker. Grace went to college at the City University of New York. She studied hard and learned a lot there.

Teaching and Writing Career

Grace Edwards loved to teach others about writing. She was a professor of creative writing at several colleges. These included the College of New Rochelle, Hofstra University, Hunter College, and Marymount Manhattan College. She also wrote for important newspapers. Her articles appeared in The Los Angeles Times Book Review and The Washington Post Book Review.

Awards and Recognition

Grace Edwards was recognized for her amazing writing. In 1999, she received a special award. It was called the Fiction Honor Book award. This award came from the Black Caucus of the American Literary Association.
