Grace Leboy Kahn: A Musical Life
Early Talents
Grace Leboy was born in Brooklyn, New York. She was a very gifted musician from a young age. By the time she was 15, she was already working as a pianist. Her musical talent quickly brought her fame. When she was 18, her song "I Wish I Had A Girl" became very popular.
A Partnership in Music
Grace's songs even made it to Broadway shows. By age 21, her music was featured in a show called Jumping Jupiter. Many famous singers of her time recorded her songs. She often worked with Gus Kahn, who wrote the lyrics for many of her compositions. Grace and Gus Kahn got married in 1916. They had two children, Donald Gustave Kahn and Irene Kahn.
Her Musical Legacy
Grace Leboy Kahn's life and work with Gus Kahn were so important that a movie was made about them. The film was called I'll See You in My Dreams. In the movie, the famous actress Doris Day played Grace. Grace Leboy Kahn left behind a wonderful collection of music.
