Graham Lyons, born on June 28, 1969, is an Indigenous Australian who used to play professional rugby league. He played for famous teams like South Sydney, Penrith, and Balmain in the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition. Graham mostly played as a winger, but he also spent time playing in the centres. He is the cousin of another well-known rugby league player, Cliff Lyons.

Playing Rugby League

Graham Lyons started his professional rugby league career with the South Sydney Rabbitohs in 1988. He was the 765th player to play first grade for the club.

Success with South Sydney

In 1989, Graham was part of a very successful South Sydney team. They won the minor premiership, which means they finished first on the ladder at the end of the regular season. This was a big achievement for the club.

However, their journey to the Grand Final ended in the preliminary final. They were defeated by the Canberra Raiders.

Tough Times and Top Try Scorer

The 1990 season was a difficult one for South Sydney. The team finished last on the competition ladder. Despite the team's struggles, Graham Lyons had a strong individual year. He was South Sydney's top try scorer for the season.

State of Origin and Representative Games

Graham's great performance in 1990 led to him being chosen for the New South Wales Blues. This team plays in the famous State of Origin series. He played in three State of Origin games that year, starting as a winger in two of them.

He also had the honor of playing for the Australian Aboriginal side. This was during the 1990 Pacific Cup tournament.

Moving Clubs and Final Years

After his time at South Sydney, Graham Lyons moved to the Penrith Panthers in 1992. He then joined the Balmain Tigers in 1993.

In his first year with Balmain, he showed his try-scoring skills again. He was the club's top try scorer for the season, scoring ten tries. His final year in top-grade rugby league was in 1994. Balmain finished last that year, which was only the fourth time in the club's long history.

Graham Lyons played his last professional game in August 1994 against the Brisbane Broncos.

Career Totals

Throughout his career, including his games for New South Wales and NSW City, Graham Lyons played a total of 100 first-grade games. He scored 30 tries during his time as a professional rugby league player.
