Grand Jason Island, sometimes called "Grand Island," is a small island in the Falkland Islands. It is located at 51°03′S 61°03′W / 51.05°S 61.05°W, just east of Steeple Jason Island. Grand Jason is part of a group of islands known as the Jason Islands. In Spanish, Grand Jason and Steeple Jason are together called "Islas los Salvajes."
Amazing Wildlife on Grand Jason
Grand Jason Island is a very special place for animals. It is home to one of the biggest groups of black-browed albatrosses in the entire world. These large seabirds spend most of their lives flying over the ocean. They only come to land to nest and raise their young.
Protecting Grand Jason's Wildlife
In the 1990s, a kind person from New York City named Michael Steinhardt bought Grand Jason Island. He also bought Steeple Jason Island. Later, he gave both islands to the Wildlife Conservation Society. This group is based at the Bronx Zoo and works to protect animals and their habitats around the world. Thanks to this donation, the islands and their amazing wildlife are now protected.
