The Grands Moulins de Paris means "Great Mills of Paris." It is a large, old flour mill located in Marquette-lez-Lille, a town in the Nord department of France. A flour mill is a place where grain, like wheat, is ground into flour. This building has been recognized as an official Historical Monument since 2001, which means it's a very important historical site.

History of the Flour Mill

This big flour mill was built in 1921. It was placed close to the Deûle River, which was helpful for transporting goods. The building was designed by an architect named Vuagnaux. He used a special style called Flemish Revival, which looks like old buildings from the Flanders region.

In 1928, a company called Les Grands Moulins de Paris bought the mill. They used it to make flour for many years. The mill was very busy during its best times, with about 400 people working there. However, the company stopped using the mill in 1989. After that, the building was empty for a while.

On May 30, 2001, the flour mill was officially named a Historical Monument. This helped protect the building because of its history and unique architecture. In the 2010s, the local government, known as the European Metropolis of Lille, started a plan to fix up the old mill. The goal is to turn the building into new homes by 2021 or 2022.
