Ann "Granny" Boswell (1813 – 16 April 1909) was a special woman known for her healing skills. She lived in Helston, Cornwall, UK. Some people even thought she had magical powers, like a witch, because of her unique abilities.

Granny Boswell's Early Life

Ann Boswell was born in Ireland in 1813. She came from the Romani community, who are also known as Roma or Gypsies. They are a group of people with a rich history and culture, often traveling from place to place.

Ann married a man named Ephraim Boswell. He was a respected leader among the Romani people, sometimes called the 'King of the Gypsies'.

Life in Cornwall

From about 1860, Ann and Ephraim lived in west Cornwall. They spent most of their time near the Lizard peninsula, close to Helston. They had six children together. Their first child, Love Unity Boswell, was born in 1861. Ephraim worked in various jobs to support his family.

Granny Boswell's Healing Work

Granny Boswell became very well-known in her area for her skills as a "wise woman" and a healer. People would come to her for help with their health problems. She would also sell special charms that she believed could help people get better.

She was especially famous for her ability to heal sick animals, particularly cattle. Many farmers trusted her to help their livestock.

Her Legacy

Around 1900, a photographer named A. H. Hawke took a picture of Granny Boswell. It showed her sitting and smoking a pipe.

Granny Boswell passed away on April 16, 1909. Many people attended her funeral, including members of the Romani community. She was buried at the Tregerest Methodist Chapel. Her memory lived on as a kind and powerful healer in Cornwall.
