Grant is a small place in Allen Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is called an unincorporated community. This means it does not have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it is managed by the parish.

Grant is located on Louisiana Highway 377. It is about 16 miles northwest of Oberlin. The community has its own post office with the ZIP code 70644. This post office first opened a long time ago, on July 3, 1894.

What is Grant Like?

Grant is an important center for its local area. Even though it is not a city, it serves as the main spot for Ward Four of Allen Parish. This means many local services are found here.

Schools and Services

Grant is home to Fairview High School. The Allen Parish School Board runs this school. It provides education for students in the area.

The community also has important public services. Allen Parish Fire Protection District 3 has its main fire station here. They also have a training center for firefighters. The Northwest Allen Water District has its office in Grant too. Both the fire station and water office are located near the high school on Highway 377.

Important Places in Grant

Grant has two cemeteries that serve the community. These are Palestine Cemetery and Hamilton Cemetery. Palestine Cemetery is right next to Palestine Baptist Church. Both cemeteries are located south of the high school.

A Look Back in Time

The area around Grant has a long history. People believe that the first permanent settlement by white settlers happened around 1816. This was near the bluff bank of Whiskey Chitto Creek. A person named "Saddler" Johnson is thought to be the first settler. This makes the area potentially older than other early settlements nearby.

It is not known if Native American villages were in this exact spot before. However, historical records show that other early settlements in nearby Beauregard Parish were built close to existing Native American villages.
