A Look Back in Time
The area around Grant has a long history. People believe that the first permanent settlement by white settlers happened around 1816. This was near the bluff bank of Whiskey Chitto Creek. A person named "Saddler" Johnson is thought to be the first settler. This makes the area potentially older than other early settlements nearby.
It is not known if Native American villages were in this exact spot before. However, historical records show that other early settlements in nearby Beauregard Parish were built close to existing Native American villages.
