Founding Blackfire

Grant was a founding member of the band Blackfire. They were one of Australia's most successful Indigenous bands in the 1990s. Blackfire won a NAIDOC award for Artists of the Year. They also received an international songwriting award. This award was for their song "My Island Paradise." Grant managed Blackfire for ten of their twelve years together.

Other Music Projects

After Blackfire took a break, Grant started another band. He founded the Kutcha Edwards Band. This happened after Blackfire had toured for 12 years.

In 2007, Grant released his own solo album. It was called Big City Combo. Famous musicians appeared on his album. These included Wilbur Wilde, Ross Wilson, Paul Kelly, and Paul Hester.

Today, Grant's Big City Combo Band includes members from other famous bands. These bands are OL’55, Swanee, Delltones, Dynamic Hepnotics, and Mental as Anything. Grant has also played with and managed other Koori artists. These include Interaction, Mercury Blues, Deniece Hudson, Bob Wilson, and Vic Simms. He has toured across Australia and in many other countries. He is a very important Indigenous musician in Australia.

Supporting Indigenous Music

Grant helped start Songlines Music Aboriginal Corporation. He was also its CEO for 12 years. In 2003, he created a big Indigenous music concert. It is called Share the Spirit. This concert happens every year in Melbourne on January 26.
