Exploring Grapevine's History and Legends
The Haunted Raven Hill Cemetery
Some people say that Raven Hill Cemetery in Grapevine is haunted! Local stories tell of a glowing blue orb, like a ball of light, that appears there. This mysterious orb is said to follow people who visit the cemetery.
Grapevine's Coal Mining Past
Grapevine was once an important place for coal mining. In the 1920s, a coal mine opened in the community. This mine helped provide energy for many years.
The mine kept working into the 1950s. Different companies managed it, like the Black Star Coal Company and later the Sheffield and Coy Coal Company.
In May 1958, a fire started deep inside an old, unused part of the mine. Because of the fire, the mine had to close down. However, it didn't stay closed forever! The mine reopened in 1962 under a new company called Five Star Coal Company.
