What is the Great Falls Balloon Festival?
The Great Falls Balloon Festival is a big celebration of hot air balloons. It has been held every August since 1993. The only time it didn't happen in person was in 2020. That year, it was held online because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The festival takes place right by the beautiful Androscoggin River.
Fun Activities at the Festival
Besides watching the amazing balloons, there's lots more to do! The festival offers exciting rides and fun games for everyone. You can listen to live music and explore different trade booths. These booths often sell cool crafts, food, and other interesting items. It's a great place to spend time with family and friends.
A Change for the Festival in 2024
In 2024, the people who organized the Great Falls Balloon Festival made a big decision. They decided not to hold the festival that year. This was because of some challenges they faced. These included things like planning problems and safety worries.
After talking with the city of Lewiston, the festival organizers decided to let the city take over. So, for 2024, the festival was held under a new name: the L/A Balloon Festival. This allowed the tradition of hot air balloons in the twin cities to continue!
