The Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger (GPCAH) is a helpful group in the Philadelphia area. It started in 1996. Its main goal is to make sure everyone has enough food to live a healthy life.

The Coalition helps people find food. They connect families with food programs like SNAP benefits. SNAP helps people buy groceries. They also connect people to food banks and soup kitchens. These places offer food to those who need it.

Helping People Get Food

The Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger began in 1996. It was created to help people find food and connect with important programs. One of their main jobs is to help people sign up for SNAP benefits. This program helps families buy food.

In 2019, a staff member named Alyssa Bradley explained how they help. She said they work to help people sign up for SNAP benefits if they qualify. Another leader, Kathy Fisher, works to make sure people feel good about getting help. She wants everyone to know that getting food assistance is okay.

Working with the Philadelphia Eagles

In 2018, the Coalition worked with the Philadelphia Eagles football team. This event was called "Eaglesgiving." Laura Wall, who leads the Coalition, helped the Eagles choose a group called Feast of Justice to support. She was very impressed by how much the Eagles helped.

Helping During Government Shutdowns

In 2019, the United States government had a shutdown. This caused delays in SNAP benefits for many families. The Coalition received many calls from people worried about getting their food. They worked hard to connect government workers and others affected by the shutdown with SNAP benefits. This helped make sure people still had food during a tough time.

Walk + Run Against Hunger

The Coalition organizes a yearly event called the Stroehmann Walk+Run Against Hunger. This is a 5K race held every April. People run or walk to raise money.

The money raised helps over 100 food pantries and soup kitchens. These places are in Southeastern Pennsylvania and South Jersey. The event also supports other important groups. These include The Food Trust, SHARE Food Program, and Philabundance. All these groups work to fight hunger in the region.
