Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Greenland is a small place in Ross County, in the U.S. state of Ohio. It is known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and buildings that isn't officially a separate town or city. Instead, it's part of the larger county area.

A Look Back at Greenland's History

The name "Greenland" was given to this community by a railroad company. This happened many years ago. Railroads were very important for moving people and goods across the country. They often named the places where their trains would stop.

A post office opened in Greenland in 1860. This was a big event for the people living there. It meant they could easily send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for over 40 years, finally closing in 1902.

Besides the post office, Greenland also had a Presbyterian church. Churches were often central to small communities like Greenland. They were places for people to worship and gather together.
