Greg Hetson's Music Career

Playing with Bad Religion

Greg Hetson first played a guitar solo on the song "Part III" from Bad Religion's album How Could Hell Be Any Worse?. His first official release with the band was the Back to the Known EP in 1985. This EP showed the band returning to their original punk sound. Before this, they had released a different kind of album called Into the Unknown, which was not very successful.

After Back to the Known, Bad Religion broke up for a short time. But they got back together in 1986 with the same members who made How Could Hell Be Any Worse?, and Greg Hetson was part of the group. Bad Religion then recorded three popular albums: Suffer, No Control, and Against the Grain.

In 1991, their drummer Pete Finestone left the band. Bobby Schayer took his place, and they recorded their next album, Generator. This album was finished in 1991 but was released a year later. For Generator, Bad Religion made their first music video for the song "Atomic Garden." This was also their first song released as a single.

In 1993, the band left their first record label, Epitaph Records. They signed with Atlantic Records, which released their album Recipe for Hate. This album was quite successful and was the first Bad Religion album to appear on the Billboard music charts. They also made two music videos for songs from this album: "American Jesus" and "Struck a Nerve".

The band became even more popular in 1994 with their album Stranger Than Fiction. This album included well-known songs like "Infected" and "21st Century (Digital Boy)". These songs are still often played at their concerts. After this album, longtime guitarist Brett Gurewitz left Bad Religion. He wanted to focus on his record label, Epitaph Records.

Brian Baker, who used to play guitar for other bands, joined Bad Religion to replace Gurewitz. The band recorded three more albums without Gurewitz. He returned to the band in 2001. The band's members at that time were Greg Graffin (vocals), Gurewitz, Hetson, Baker (all on guitar), Jay Bentley (bass), and Brooks Wackerman (drums).

In April 2013, Greg Hetson stopped touring with Bad Religion. Mike Dimkich from The Cult joined the band to play guitar instead. In January 2014, it was confirmed that Mike Dimkich became an official member of Bad Religion. This meant Greg Hetson was no longer a member of the band.

Punk Rock Karaoke

Greg Hetson plays guitar in the band Punk Rock Karaoke. This band includes other famous musicians like Eric Melvin from NOFX, Steve Soto from The Adolescents, Stan Lee from The Dickies, and Darrin Pfeiffer, the original drummer for Goldfinger.

Other musicians who have played with Punk Rock Karaoke include Bob Mothersbaugh of Devo and Mike Watt of Minutemen and Iggy and the Stooges. This band has been performing since 1996. They released a DVD/CD set with videos you can sing along to. They also released an album of cover songs featuring singers like Matt Skiba, Dave King, and Mike Herrera.

New Music Projects

Greg Hetson is currently working on a new music project with Loomis Fall. Other musicians like Bobby Alt, Chris Vrenna, and Christopher Chartrand are also involved. The music is being recorded by Josh Achziger. The release date for this new project has not been announced yet.
