Grevillea microstyla is a fascinating type of shrub that belongs to the Grevillea plant family. It is found only in a special part of Western Australia called the Kimberley region. This plant is unique to Australia and is an important part of its natural environment.

Discovering Grevillea microstyla

This shrub usually grows to be about 0.3 to 0.8 meters (about 1 to 2.6 feet) tall. It has special woody swelling at its base called a lignotuber. This helps the plant survive tough conditions, like bushfires, by allowing it to regrow from its roots. Its branches are not covered in a waxy, bluish coating.

What Does It Look Like?

The leaves of Grevillea microstyla are simple and flat. They are not deeply cut or divided. Each leaf blade can be anywhere from 20 to 85 millimeters (about 0.8 to 3.3 inches) long. They are also about 10 to 45 millimeters (about 0.4 to 1.8 inches) wide.

Life Cycle of Grevillea microstyla

This plant puts on a beautiful display of red flowers. It blooms for several months, from December all the way through June. The flowers grow in clusters at the very end of its branches. These clusters are called a terminal raceme inflorescence.

After the flowering period, the plant forms its fruit. These fruits are smooth and shaped like an oval. They are usually about 11 to 16 millimeters (about 0.4 to 0.6 inches) long.
