History of Gridley
Gridley was officially planned out in 1899. This happened when the Chicago & Northwestern railroad built its tracks to that spot. The railroad company decided to name the new place after Ashel Gridley. He was a well-known banker from Illinois.
A post office was opened in Gridley in 1900. It helped people send and receive mail for ten years. The post office closed down in 1910. In 1925, only 27 people lived in Gridley.
