About the Griffith Building
The Griffith Building is quite tall, reaching about 64.01 m (210.0 ft) high. It has 14 floors. The building was designed in a style called Gothic architecture. This style often includes pointed arches and detailed decorations.
Its Original Purpose
The Griffith Piano Company built this large structure. They used it for many different things. It was a place where they could show off and sell their pianos. It also had workshops where pianos could be made or repaired.
The building included office spaces for the company's business. It even had a special auditorium for musical performances. This shows how important music was to the Griffith Piano Company.
Community Involvement
The Griffith Piano Company also supported the arts in other ways. A special foundation, led by Mrs. Parker O. Griffith, helped manage and support the Newark Symphony Hall. This foundation helped plan many musical events and programs there.
Looking to the Future
For more than ten years, there have been plans to update the Griffith Building. The idea is to turn it into apartments. However, these plans have not yet been completed. People are still hoping to see this historic building get a new life.
