Guadalupe is a small district or village located in the larger city of Murcia, in the Region of Murcia, Spain. The main part of this area is often called Guadalupe de Maciascoque. It's a place with interesting history and important buildings.
History of Guadalupe
Long ago, in the Middle Ages, Guadalupe was home to a Jewish community. However, in 1492, all Jewish people were asked to leave Spain. This event is known as the expulsion of the Jews.
Important Buildings
Guadalupe is home to a special group of buildings called El Escorial Murciano. This complex includes two very important places:
- The Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia: This is a university where students go to learn and study many different subjects.
- The Monasterio de los Jerónimos de San Pedro de la Ñora: This is a very old and historic monastery. A monastery is a building where monks, who are religious men, live and work together.
