Guadalupe is a charming town and municipality located in the Santander Department in northeastern Colombia. It was founded a long time ago, in 1715, by the Camacho Sabidos family. Captain José Camacho Sabidos led this effort, with help from Don Juan de Herrera and Tovar. This information comes from church records from 1713.

Discovering Guadalupe: Fun Places to Visit

Guadalupe is a great place to explore! It has many natural spots that are perfect for adventure and relaxation.

  • El Salitre Pond: Imagine a natural hot tub! This pond has warm water that flows into a natural pool carved into the rock. It's like a natural jacuzzi.
  • La Gloria Pond: Not far from El Salitre, this is another natural pool where people love to swim. It's also a popular spot for barbecues and picnics.
  • La Cueva el Perico: This is a natural cave, about 3 kilometers from the main road. It's a cool place to explore if you like caves.

The main ways people in Guadalupe earn a living are through farming (agriculture) and raising animals (livestock). Local organizations like Multicoop LTDA and Banco Agrario also help the town's economy.

Getting Around Guadalupe

Guadalupe is connected to bigger cities by roads. A secondary road links Guadalupe to the main highway between Bucaramanga and Bogotá, passing through Oiba. About 60% of the road to Guadalupe is now paved, making travel easier.

The town is also connected to Suaita, passing through San Jose Suaita, which leads to the central highway to Bogotá. There are also roads to Contratación and Guapotá. These roads are not paved but are usually okay for driving, though they might be a bit bumpy for regular cars.

Learning in Guadalupe: Schools and Education

Guadalupe has two main schools for students:

  • The Escuela Normal Superior María Auxiliadora
  • The Instituto Técnico Agropecuario

These schools help young people in the town get a good education.

Fun Times: Festivals and Celebrations

People in Guadalupe love to celebrate! Here are some of their main festivities:
