Bridge over Guayquiraró River

The Guayquiraró River (in Spanish, Río Guayquiraró) is an important river in the northeastern part of Argentina. It flows through a region called Mesopotamia, which means "land between rivers." This river starts near the border between two provinces: Entre Ríos and Corrientes. Many smaller streams join together to form the Guayquiraró River.

It flows west along the border between these two provinces for about 110 kilometers (or 68 miles). Finally, it empties into the much larger Paraná River. The spot where it joins the Paraná River is about 26 meters (or 85 feet) above sea level.

About the River

Where the River Starts

The Guayquiraró River begins in the middle section of the border between the Entre Ríos and Corrientes provinces. It gets its water from many smaller streams that flow into it, especially from its right side.

How Long and Wide is it?

The area that collects water for the Guayquiraró River, called its drainage basin, covers a large space of about 3,150 square kilometers (or 1,216 square miles). On average, the river carries about 21.7 cubic meters of water every second. That's like filling about 21 large bathtubs with water every second!
