Guild, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Guild is a small, quiet place in the southeastern part of Texas County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of the larger county.

Guild is located on a ridge, which is like a long, narrow hill. It's just west of a stream called Stillhouse Branch and about half a mile south of the South Prong of the Jacks Fork river. Another small community called Hattie is about one and a half miles northeast of Guild, also near the South Prong. You can get to Guild by using Missouri Route NN from Howell County and then taking Mt. Olive Road. There used to be a school nearby, the Mt. Olive School, located just east of Guild across Stillhouse Branch.

A Look at Guild's Past

Guild had its own post office, which is where people would send and receive mail. This post office opened in 1908. It served the community for many years before it closed down in 1932. It's a bit of a mystery why this particular place was named "Guild." Sometimes, communities are named after important people, local landmarks, or even events, but the reason for Guild's name isn't known today.
