Amazing Geumo Mountain

One of Gumi's most famous spots is Geumo Mountain, also called Geumo San. It became a special park in 1970. This mountain is 976 meters (about 3,200 feet) tall! Many tourists visit because it has amazing views. You can see unique rock shapes, thick forests, and pretty valleys.

Geumo Mountain is special because of its shape. From far away, it looks like a giant person lying down. Photographers love to take pictures here, especially at sunset, when the mountain looks truly spectacular. You can even find postcards with pictures of this giant-like profile!

Gumi's Growth Story

Gumi grew a lot thanks to Park Chung-hee. He was a former president of South Korea and was born in Gumi in 1917. During his time as president, Gumi became very successful.

Important roads and railways were built to pass through the city. For example, the Gyeongbu Expressway and the Gyeongbu Line railway, which are major travel routes in the country, were made to go through Gumi. These routes could have gone a different way, but President Park Chung-hee wanted them to help his hometown. This special care helped Gumi grow quickly and become the important industrial city it is today.
