Gundiah Railway Station is a railway station that is no longer in use. It is located on the North Coast railway line in Queensland, Australia. A railway station that is "closed" means trains no longer stop there. In 1922, a goods train had an accident at this station.
The 1922 Train Accident
On Friday, November 24, 1922, a train carrying goods had an accident at Gundiah. This happened while the train was moving wagons around, a process called shunting. The train's brake car fell across the main railway line. This made the North Coast line at Gundiah impossible to use for several days.
Many wagons filled with goods also went off the tracks. Around 7 PM, the train driver was trying to move the train forward. However, the train could not go up a small hill. The driver then tried to back up to get a better start. But part of the train rolled onto the main line, and another part went onto a side track at Gundiah Station. Luckily, no one was hurt in the accident.
