Gunnar Sommerfeldt (born September 4, 1890 – died August 30, 1947) was a talented person from Denmark. He was known for two main things: being an actor and making movies. He lived during a time when movies were still quite new and exciting!
In 1919, Gunnar Sommerfeldt directed a film called Saga Borgarættarinnar. This movie was special because it was the first full-length film ever shot in Iceland. It was released in 1920. Gunnar Sommerfeldt also wrote the story for the film, which was based on a book by Gunnar Gunnarsson.
His last big movie as a director was in 1921. It was an adaptation of a famous book called Growth of the Soil by Knut Hamsun. This book had won the Nobel Prize in Literature just the year before, which shows how important it was.
