Guru Dhanapal (born March 2, 1960 – died April 18, 2014) was a talented film director from India. He mainly worked in Tamil cinema, which is the Tamil language film industry. He was well-known for directing many movies, especially with the actor Sathyaraj.

Guru Dhanapal started his journey as a director with the movie Unna Nenachen Pattu Padichen in 1992. This film starred actors like Karthik, Sasikala, and Monisha.
Working with Sathyaraj
During the 1990s, Guru Dhanapal directed several popular movies with Sathyaraj in the main role. These movies were often fun comedy films that did well at the box office. Some of his successful films with Sathyaraj include Thai Maaman (1994), Maaman Magal (1995), and Periya Manushan (1997). These movies were made quite quickly.
Other Projects
Besides working with Sathyaraj, Guru Dhanapal also directed two films with actor Jayaram: Periya Idathu Mappillai (1997) and Raja Magal, though Raja Magal was never released. He also directed a part of Suyamvaram (1999), which was a unique film featuring many famous actors from the Tamil film industry.
Some of his planned movies, like Vanthanga Jeyichanga (started in 1998 with Sathyaraj and Meena) and Yen Vizhiyil Nee Irunthaal (started in 2000 with Karthik and Suvaluxmi), unfortunately didn't get made.
His last movie was Suyetchai MLA in 2006, which also starred Sathyaraj. This film took a long time to be released.

Death
Guru Dhanapal passed away on April 18, 2014, in Coimbatore. He was 55 years old. He had been admitted to the hospital after feeling chest pains.
