A Look at Haab's History
Haab's Restaurant first opened its doors in 1934. It was started by two brothers, Otto and Oscar Haab. The building where it stands has been a restaurant and bar since the 1870s! It's located on U.S. Highway 12, which used to be the main road between big cities like Detroit and Chicago.
In 1976, Mike Kabat and Harvey Glaze bought the restaurant. Later, in 1991, Harvey Glaze sold his share. Today, Mike Kabat and his son, David, own Haab's.
For many years, Haab's celebrated its anniversary every October. They would offer special prices from their 1934 menu on certain items. For example, you could get chicken in a basket for 50 cents or spaghetti for 40 cents! In 2014, they changed the celebration to a 34% discount on regular checks.
Haab's on TV!
On July 14, 2013, Haab's Restaurant won a special contest on the QVC TV show In the Kitchen with David. Because they won, the show's host, David Venable, and producer, Mary DeAngeli, came to visit the restaurant! A few weeks later, on August 25, the TV show even broadcast live from Ypsilanti, featuring Haab's.
