Hagansport is a small community in Franklin County, Texas, United States. It's called an "unincorporated community," which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's governed by the county. In the year 2000, about 40 people lived there.

History of Hagansport
The name Hagansport comes from an early settler named Hagan. He set up a crossing point on the Sulphur River. Over time, "Hagan's Port" became one word: Hagansport.
The first post office opened in 1857. By the 1880s, Hagansport had grown to about 150 people. It had a post office, a cotton gin (a machine that separates cotton fibers from seeds), a sawmill, and other businesses.
Since then, the number of people living in Hagansport has slowly gone down. The post office closed permanently in 1929. In the 1930s, the community had a sawmill, two churches, four businesses, and 125 residents. By 1985, it had three churches, only one business, and a population of 40. The population was still around 40 in 2000.
As of 2020, Hagansport has one church, a community center, a cemetery, and a general store. It's also famous for its Annual Hagansport Fall Farm Equipment and Horse Auction. This event brings visitors from all over East Texas!
Geography of Hagansport
Hagansport is located where State Highway 37 and Farm to Market Road 71 meet. It's about eleven miles northwest of Mount Vernon, which is the county seat. During its history, Hagansport actually moved about a mile east from its original spot.

The weather in Hagansport has hot and humid summers. Winters are generally mild to cool. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Hagansport has a humid subtropical climate. This means it has warm temperatures and a lot of moisture in the air.
Education in Hagansport
In 1896, Hagansport had a one-room school with one teacher and 69 students. This school had opened in 1884 and continued to operate into the 1930s. Today, students in the community attend schools in the Mount Vernon Independent School District.
