Discovering Hagaste's Past
Hagaste village has been around for a long time. It was first written about in records way back in 1620. Back then, it was called by Akaste.
Hagaste and Suuremõisa Manor
For many years, Hagaste was connected to a large estate called Suuremõisa Manor. A manor was like a big country house with lots of land around it. The German name for this manor was Grossenhof.
Different Names for Hagaste
The eastern part of Hagaste village has been known by a few different names over time. People sometimes called it Sillaotsa, Süllatse, or Silluste.
Part of Värssu Village
For a period between 1977 and 1997, Hagaste was not listed as a separate village. During these years, it was considered part of the nearby village of Värssu. After 1997, Hagaste became its own village again.
