Hagersville is a small community located in East Rockhill Township in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is about 427 feet (130 meters) above sea level.

History of Hagersville

Hagersville got its first post office in 1851. A man named Francis Gerhard was the first postmaster, which means he was in charge of the mail.

How Hagersville Got Its Name

The village was named after Colonel George Hager. He was an important politician in the local area. A politician is someone who works in government. Another person from the Hager family, Samuel Hager, started the nearby town of Perkasie.

Life in Hagersville in the 1870s

By the 1870s, Hagersville had about 150 people living there. It was a busy place with a store and a hotel. There were also shops where people worked with metal and wood.

  • Blacksmiths made and repaired things out of metal.
  • Wheelwrights made and repaired wheels for wagons and carriages.

These shops were busy because Hagersville also had two factories that made coaches. Coaches were like old-fashioned buses or taxis pulled by horses.

Hagersville and the Fries Rebellion

Around 1875, a man named Frederick Heany owned the hotel in Hagersville. He was the son of a German immigrant who settled in Rockhill. Frederick Heany was known for being one of the leaders of something called the Fries Rebellion. This was a protest that happened in Pennsylvania a long time ago.
