Hagigat Rzayeva's Early Life and Dreams
Hagigat Rzayeva grew up in a small village near Lankaran, in southeastern Azerbaijan. Her father passed away when she was very young. Later, her mother remarried. Hagigat faced challenges because her stepfather did not want her to study or pursue her artistic talents.
Despite these difficulties, Hagigat began attending the Uns School for Girls in Lankaran in 1917. This school was special because it offered many activities. Here, Hagigat's acting and singing skills really started to shine and grow.
Becoming a Professional Artist
After Azerbaijan became part of the Soviet Union, Hagigat moved to Baku. She wanted to get a higher education in teaching. While studying, she joined an amateur theater group at her school. This is where she discovered her love for opera and professional acting.
Joining the Opera Theatre
A famous composer named Muslim Magomayev tested Hagigat's singing. He was so impressed that he hired her to work at the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre. This was a big step for her.
At age twenty, Hagigat decided to fully dedicate herself to acting. She also enrolled in the Azerbaijan State Conservatoire. There, she studied professional mugham, which is a traditional Azeri folk music style, and opera.
Stage and Screen Performances
For fifteen years, Hagigat performed alongside another great opera singer, Huseyngulu Sarabski. Their performances were very popular. She also appeared in three films in the early 1930s.
In 1943, Hagigat Rzayeva was given the special title of People's Artist of Azerbaijan. This award recognized her amazing talent and contributions to art. She continued to act at the Opera Theatre until she retired in 1952.
Her most famous roles include Arab Zangi in the opera Shah Ismayil by Muslim Magomayev. She was also well-known for playing Sanam in O olmasin, bu olsun by Uzeyir Hajibeyov.
Hagigat's Family Life
Hagigat Rzayeva married Huseyn Rzayev, who was a stage manager at the Opera Theatre. They had three children together. Their two sons followed in their mother's footsteps and became professional musicians. Their daughter became a literature instructor at the Azerbaijan State Conservatoire.
