Hail Ridge, Kansas facts for kids
Hail Ridge was once a ghost town in Linn County, Kansas, United States. It's located about nine miles (14 km) southwest of Mound City and five miles (8 km) east of Blue Mound. A ghost town is a place where people used to live, but now it's mostly empty.

History of Hail Ridge
Hail Ridge was a small community that slowly faded away. It had a school and even a post office for a while.
The Hail Ridge Schoolhouse
A one room school house was an important part of Hail Ridge. It was known as School Number 29. This school taught children from 1875 until 1957.
The school building was located where Ingram Road and 600 Road meet today. School sections were usually about 6 square miles (16 km2) in size. The school building would be in the middle of this area.
Life at the School
Children in Hail Ridge attended grades 1 through 8 at this school. Many students rode horses or walked to get there each day. Hester Elliot was one of the teachers. George Ferguson was the last teacher before the school closed in 1957.
Hail Ridge Post Office
From 1879 to 1888, Hail Ridge had its own US post office. It might have been inside the general store owned by the Weatherby family. This store was located in the Mound City Township.
Families of Hail Ridge
Many families lived in the Hail Ridge area during the early to late 1900s. Some of these family names included Paddock, Stites, Stockhoff, and Strawbridge. Other families were Robinson, Sisson, Priest, Morrell, Weatherby, Davis, Johnson, and Rogers.
