Haines Falls is a small community, also called a hamlet, located in Greene County, New York, in the United States. It's found in the Town of Hunter, just east of Tannersville. Haines Falls is known for its beautiful mountain scenery and has always been a popular place for visitors. It sits at the top of the Kaaterskill Clove, a deep valley carved by water. This area was once home to famous hotels like the Catskill Mountain House and the Kaaterskill Hotel, which offered amazing views of the well-known Kaaterskill Falls.
A Place for Artists
Haines Falls has a special connection to art history. In 1825, a famous artist named Thomas Cole visited this area. He is known for starting the Hudson River School, a group of painters who loved to paint landscapes. Thomas Cole created some of his first Catskill mountain paintings right here in Haines Falls. One of his famous works, Lake with Dead Trees, shows a scene from South Lake, which is nearby. He also painted the stunning Kaaterskill Falls.

Several important roads run through Haines Falls. These include State Route 23A, Clum Hill Road, North Lake Road, and County Route 25.
