Working with Businesses
The Haisla Nation is known for supporting business projects. They have worked on projects related to energy and natural gas.
Douglas Channel Energy Partners
In 2004, a company called Douglas Channel Energy Partners (DCEP) talked to the Haisla Nation about building a natural gas facility. In 2011, the Haisla Nation created a group called HN DC LNG LP. This group was formed so the Haisla Nation could be involved in and benefit from the natural gas industry in western Canada. In 2012, the National Energy Board approved a project that would allow them to send out a lot of cooled-down natural gas over 20 years.
Enbridge Northern Gateway Project
Kitamaat Village, located on Haisla traditional land, was planned as the end point for a pipeline project called Northern Gateway by Enbridge. If approved, this project would have brought raw oil from the oil sands to Kitamaat. From there, it would have been loaded onto large ships to be sent across the Pacific Ocean.
