Halfdan Hegtun's Political Journey
Serving in the Norwegian Parliament
Halfdan Hegtun was chosen to be a member of the Norwegian Parliament in 1965. This is like being a representative in your country's main government assembly. He represented the area called Akershus. He was so good at his job that people voted for him again for another term.
During his second time in Parliament, in 1972, something big happened. The Liberal Party, which Hegtun belonged to, split into two groups. This happened because they disagreed about whether Norway should join the European Economic Community. This group was a partnership of European countries.
Hegtun decided to join the new group, called the Liberal People's Party. However, most of the politicians who joined this new party were not re-elected in 1973.
Local Government Work
Even after his time in the national Parliament, Hegtun continued to be involved in politics. He was a member of the Akershus county council from 1983 to 1991. A county council helps make decisions for a larger region.
Later, he also worked in local politics in Bærum. In 1988, he rejoined his original party, the Liberal Party.
Halfdan Hegtun's Radio Career
Halfdan Hegtun had an interesting career in radio. From 1946 to 1948, he worked for the BBC in London, England. The BBC is a very famous broadcasting company.
After that, he worked for NRK, which is the main public broadcasting company in Norway. He became the director of NRK Radio from 1973 to 1981. This meant he was in charge of all the radio programs for NRK.
Halfdan Hegtun as a Comedian and Writer
Halfdan Hegtun was also well-known for his humor. He created a very popular character named Even Brattbakken. He would perform as this character using different voices.
He also wrote books under the name of his character. Two of these books are Slik je ser det (published in 1964), which means "As I see it," and I kvældssola (published in 1987), meaning "In the evening sun." Both books were "signed" by Even Brattbakken, making them part of his comedic work.
