Her Life Story
Halina was born in Paris into a big family of musicians. Her family originally came from Poland and were part of the Polish nobility. Halina was even a countess by birth! She was also a distant relative of the famous composer Frédéric Chopin, but she never met him because he passed away when she was very young.
Halina studied music at the important Conservatoire de Paris. Her teachers were Antoine François Marmontel and Ernest Guiraud. In 1880, she won the top prize at this famous school, which showed how skilled she was.
After her studies, Halina gave many concerts in different countries across Europe. Later, she moved to France and became a professor at the conservatory in Rennes. She was known as a brilliant pianist and also made a name for herself by writing her own music.
