A big change happened to Halstead's Point in 1918. This was during World War I, a very large global conflict. The U.S. Navy, which is America's sea military, needed more land. They decided to take a large area, including Halstead's Point.

The Navy used this land to build a military base. This base was first called a "mine depot." A mine depot is a place where military weapons, like bombs and other ordnance, are stored and handled. These weapons were used for military ships during the war.

Where Is Halstead's Point Today?

The original community of Halstead's Point is now part of a large military facility. This facility is called the Naval Weapons Station Yorktown. It's a very important base for the U.S. Navy.

You can find the area where Halstead's Point used to be near Gate 3 of this Naval Weapons Station. It is located just off State Route 143. It is also found to the east of Interstate 64. The old town is now completely unrecognizable.
